Maybe lol, it's real hard to determine who is undead and who isn't. Widmore couldn't be because Penny woulda seen the "unchange" all her life...unless she is undead too .

I think he was supposed to take the Book Of Law, as a leader he would
have to inforce the Law (rules)

The knife represents violence, whereas the book represents order and maybe peace.

I had this posted on a different thread, but seems to be better off on this thread.......

Has anyone ever seen the movie Kundun?? This whole scene reminded me of it. In the movie, they were searching for the next Dalai Lama. They came to a young boy and put a bunch of old objects in front of him and said, "Which of these objects belong to you?" I don't remember all of what he chose, but I remember him picking some glasses and saying "this is mine!"

This whole scene with John and Richard reminded me of that. The whole searching for the next chosen one, as a reincarnated representation of the previous chosen one.

Could Widmore be a "special" kid and he also was asked those questions? and maybe he got to the island but he didn't do anything special so sent him back?

I also posted this in another thread, but Carlton and Damon said we should use the way the new Dalai Lama is chosen as a clue to the whole Locke story.
